🚄 The Project
This role supports the construction of a major new intercity rail terminus in Birmingham, serving as the northern hub for the UK's high-speed rail network (HS2). It involves managing large-scale, complex M&E packages crucial for delivering a world-class, sustainable (BREEAM Excellent) transportation asset.
✅ Key Responsibilities (Summary)
The Project QS will manage the commercial success of significant M&E packages from procurement to final account.
- Commercial Control: Lead the preparation and presentation of monthly CVRs (Cost Value Reconciliations) and detailed financial forecasts, ensuring budget adherence and profitability.
- Procurement: Prepare and manage all aspects of subcontractor procurement (tendering, negotiation, and contract drafting) for specialist M&E works.
- Contract Administration: Diligently administer contracts (primarily NEC3/4), focusing on rigorous change control, Variations (Compensation Events), and final account negotiation.
- Cash Flow: Manage project cash flow by preparing and submitting timely Applications for Payment and processing subcontractor payments.
- Risk Management: Proactively identify, report on, and manage commercial risks and opportunities across all M&E packages.
🌟 Essential Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years Quantity Surveying experience, specializing in large-scale M&E installations.
- Sector Background: Proven track record on major infrastructure, rail, or transportation projects.
- Contract Expertise: Understanding or working knowledge of NEC forms of contract and complex change management procedures.
- Skills: Strong commercial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and negotiation skills.
- Qualifications: Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management is essential; MRICS or working towards chartered status is preferred.
