This role is focused on a £4bn electric vehicle battery factory, set to be the largest car battery manufacturing plant in the UK and one of the most significant in Europe. Developed by Agratas on the Gravity Smart Campus, the site features multiple buildings, with the first covering 244,710m². With a target operational date of 2026, this flagship project is crucial to the UK’s energy future.
🎯 Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to be a central technical resource for the mechanical installation of this flagship manufacturing facility. You will ensure the successful design integration, quality compliance, and technical execution of all mechanical systems, directly supporting the Senior Project Manager.
Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership: Provide authoritative technical oversight on all mechanical aspects, ensuring design integrity and installation quality meet rigorous industry standards and project specifications.

Design & Coordination: Lead the review and approval of mechanical designs, specifications, and methodologies. Critically oversee the seamless coordination of mechanical systems (HVAC, piping, process utilities) with electrical and civil disciplines.

Compliance & Quality: Ensure all mechanical works strictly comply with UK industry regulations, health and safety standards, and project technical requirements. Conduct rigorous site inspections, quality checks, and system testing.

Project Support: Assist the Senior Project Manager in monitoring progress, preparing technical reports, identifying risks, and implementing effective engineering solutions on-site.

Procurement & Subcontractors: Support procurement by reviewing technical submissions for materials and equipment. Manage and provide technical guidance to subcontractors to ensure work is completed to the highest standards.

Innovation: Drive continuous improvement and innovation within the mechanical engineering scope to enhance efficiency and performance.
⚙️ Essential Requirements

Experience: Extensive proven experience in a Senior Mechanical Engineer role within large-scale industrial, manufacturing, or complex M&E projects (e.g., automotive, pharmaceutical, data centre).

Technical Knowledge: Strong, in-depth knowledge of mechanical building services, including complex HVAC, piping, and specialized process utilities critical to advanced manufacturing environments.

Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and manage the interface between various engineering trades.

Compliance: In-depth understanding of UK health and safety regulations, construction standards, and compliance procedures.

Qualifications: Relevant industry qualifications (HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services).
