One of the largest National M&E Contractors in the UK, renowned for their dedication to training and development, is strengthening their Birmingham-based operations to support a major, ongoing project at Birmingham Airport.

We are searching for a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide critical technical leadership and oversight on this complex, high-profile project. This is a crucial role for a technical professional who is hungry for progression and ready to manage complex mechanical systems within a critical infrastructure environment.


The Role: Technical Authority & System Integrity

This is a pivotal, senior technical role focused on quality control, engineering assurance, and compliance within a live, operational airport setting. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will report to the Project Management team.

  • Core Objective: Assume full technical responsibility for the successful design review, compliance checking, installation Quality Assurance (QA), and final commissioning of mechanical packages for the M&E works at Birmingham Airport.
  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Technical Compliance: Ensure all mechanical system installations (HVAC, Public Health, specialized systems) strictly adhere to design specifications, client requirements, and the stringent standards required for airport infrastructure.
    • Site QA/QC: Lead detailed site inspections, quality checks, snagging, and formally witness critical testing and commissioning activities, ensuring adherence to aviation-related protocols where applicable.
    • Engineering Support: Provide expert technical guidance and practical solutions to the site teams, resolving complex technical queries (TQs) and design issues quickly, specifically regarding coordination within restricted access/live operational areas.
    • Design Liaison: Coordinate closely with design consultants and the client's engineering team to manage technical documentation and implement approved value engineering.
  • Impact: This role is directly responsible for ensuring the technical integrity, quality, and smooth performance handover of the mechanical installations, safeguarding project compliance on a vital regional infrastructure asset.

Candidate Requirements

We are seeking a highly experienced, detail-oriented, and technically robust Mechanical Engineer:

  • Experience: Extensive, hands-on experience as a Senior Mechanical Engineer delivering major M&E projects for an M&E contractor, with experience ideally gained within airport, rail, or other critical infrastructure environments.
  • Expertise: Deep technical knowledge of mechanical building services systems (HVAC, pipework, public health) and practical site QA/QC procedures. Must be comfortable working in a security-sensitive environment.
  • Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services (HND/HNC/Degree).
